Surprise twist: October elections lower approval ratings for Putin, Medvedev

ratingsApparently, Russian political apathy does know at least some bounds. Two well-respected polling centers have found that approval ratings for the tandem — Putin and Medvedev — have sunk quite a bit since the fraudulent October 11 elections that caused a walk-out in the Russian parliament. The shift downward is small but significant — three to six percent, depending on which index you ask.

Though I highly doubt that this crack in the widespread apathy is likely to deepen, it is an interesting testament to both the crudeness and brazenness of the fraud, as well as the effectiveness of the Duma theatrics, which happened to be going on just as the polls were conducted.
