Today, the press secretary for Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov lashed out a marginal opposition politician, Leonid Gozman, and called him a “trifling political farce.” He was reacting to a lawsuit filed by Gozman yesterday because the press secretary had recently called him a “libelous con-artist.” His response to the lawsuit? He will get “the ears of a dead mule, not monetary compensation,” said press secretary Sergei Choi.
Fun fact? The phrase is not only an allusion to a popular children’s book, “Twelve Chairs,” but also to Vladimir Putin’s response to a pesky press-conference query in 2005. That time, he was talking to Latvia, a sovereign state.
